It is with extreme sadness that we report the death of Bill Price from Llantwit Major.
Bill died on Friday, 23rd April, at the age of 65 following a short illness. He leaves his wife and two sons.
Bill was born in St. Athan and it was here he learnt to ring as a teenager. He later moved to Llantwit Major after getting married and joined the local band in the 1970s. He spent most of his working life as a teacher and finally as Headmaster of Pendoylan Church School. Because he had the best vocabulary of all the ringers he rightly became tower secretary and scribe. He regularly produced amusing and informative articles for the Llandaff Branch Newsletter. Over the last couple of years I have relied on his invaluable help to give numerous presentations on bell ringing to local organisations, and with his natural charm, sparkling wit and repartee, he proved to be a great hit especially with the WI.
Bill enjoyed his ringing and especially the camaraderie within the tower. He will be particularly remembered for his helpfulness, support and friendship within the tower, his humour and yes those terrible jokes! Despite not being as keen a ringer as some of the others he always turned up for Sunday Service ringing and practices. He was a staunch Christian and regular churchgoer and saw bell ringing as an important part of his worship.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends and particularly within Llantwit Major tower.
