This year's Monmouth Branch striking competitions were held on Saturday 15th May 2010 at St Mellons.
There was a record number of entries this year, with a total of 15 teams taking part. The local ringers proved themselves to be superb hosts with an outstanding Ringers Tea provided whilst the competition was in progress. A total of 52 branch members were involved including a number of ringers and towers ringing in a striking competition for the first time very well done to them.
Due to the large number of teams it was decided to use separate judges for each section of the competition and we are very grateful to David Moore, John Baldwin and Chris and Sarah Barrett for giving their time and for their extremely useful comments. As in previous years the standard of ringing was very high and all the bands produced creditable pieces of ringing which gave the judges plenty to think about.
The results of the Gordon Wilkinson Trophy (call change competition) judged by David Moore and John Baldwin were: First Rumney (rang 7th), 162 faults Second Shirenewton (rang 4th), 168 faults Third St Mellons (rang 1st), 267 faults Fourth Caldicot A (rang 3rd), 288 faults Fifth Kids.Ring.Out (rang 2nd), 334 faults Sixth Bassaleg (rang 6th), 353 faults Seventh Caldicot B (rang 5th), 452 faults
The results of the Audrey Bruton Trophy (method ringing competition) judged by Chris & Sarah Barrett were: First St Woolos B (rang 8th), 11.5 faults Second Rumney (rang 5th), 12.5 faults Third St Woolos A (rang 3rd), 22 faults Fourth Tredunnock (rang 1st), 28.5 faults Fifth Kids.Ring.Out (rang 5th), 41 faults Sixth Shirenewton (rang 2nd), 47 faults Seventh Llantarnam (rang 7th), 55 faults Eighth St Mellons (rang 4th), 70 faults
So another very close competition. Congratulations to all who entered on producing such an enjoyable afternoons ringing and our thanks again to the St Mellons ringers for their wonderful hospitality.
